Kingsport Speedway is a 3/8-mile asphalt oval that has hosted weekly short-track racing for decades. Late Models, Modifieds, Sportsman, and Pure Street divisions compete on Friday nights through the racing season. A grass-roots NASCAR feeder track and a Sullivan County summer-weekend staple.
Kingsport Speedway opened in 1965 as a dirt oval and hosted its first NASCAR event in 1968. After the track was paved with asphalt in 1969, it held three NASCAR Grand National races from 1969 to 1971. Richard Petty won the inaugural Kingsport 250 on June 19, 1969, and won again in 1970, while Bobby Isaac took the final event, the 1971 Kingsport 300. The surface was converted to concrete in 1996, earning the nickname the Concrete Jungle, and the track continues to run weekly stock car racing.
