Plain-English summary
- We don't ask you to create an account.
- We don't sell, share, or rent your data. There is no advertising network and no tracking pixel from a third-party marketer.
- We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits to pages. It is privacy-friendly, cookieless, and aggregates traffic without identifying you. No fingerprinting.
- Your trip planner is saved only in your browser's local storage. It never leaves your device.
- If you use the Near Me feature on the map, your browser asks for location access. We use the coordinate to sort sites by distance and then forget it. It is not sent to any server.
- When you tap Check rates on a hotel, we send you to that hotel's own booking site with a tag (
utm_source=wheretennesseebegan) so the county can measure how often the app drives lodging interest. We do not see your booking; that happens entirely on the hotel's website. - We use Open-Meteo for weather, USGS Water Services for river flow, NWS for severe-weather alerts, and OpenFreeMap for map tiles. These services may receive standard web request data (IP address, user-agent) when your browser fetches their content. None of them receive personally identifiable information from us.
What we collect
Cloudflare Web Analytics records the URL you visited, the referring URL, your country (derived from your IP), your browser type, and your screen size. It does not set cookies, does not assign a persistent identifier, and does not follow you across websites. The aggregated counts are accessible only to the site operator.
What we store on your device
Your saved trip is stored in your browser's localStorage under the key wtb-trip. You can clear it at any time from your browser settings, or by tapping Clear Trip on the /plan page. The service worker caches map tiles, fonts, and pages so the app works offline; you can purge this from your browser's site-settings.
What we don't do
- We don't run advertising or remarketing pixels.
- We don't sell or share your data with anyone.
- We don't use behavioral profiling or machine-learning identifiers.
- We don't store credit card or payment information; the app cannot take a payment.
Children
The app is intended for general audiences and does not knowingly collect data from children under 13. We have no account system, no profile, and no way to know who is using the app.
Your choices
You can decline location access when the browser prompts you (Near Me will be disabled). You can clear all locally stored data through your browser's site settings. You can uninstall the app from your home screen at any time.
Changes
We will update the "Effective" date at the top of this policy if we change how we collect or store data. Material changes will be noted in the site footer for at least 30 days.
