Terms of Use

A short, plain-English contract between you and the site.

What this site is

Where Tennessee Began is a free, public tourism guide for Sullivan County, Tennessee. It shows heritage sites, self-guided routes, events, lodging, restaurants, and stories. It is published as a community resource, not as a commercial service. There is no account, no purchase, and no subscription.

Reasonable use

You may use the site to plan a trip, share an itinerary with friends, save sites to visit, and install the app on your phone. You may not scrape or republish the site's content in bulk for commercial purposes, attempt to overload the servers, or attempt to probe security vulnerabilities outside of a responsible-disclosure program.

Accuracy and the "right to be wrong"

We do our best to keep hours, addresses, prices, phone numbers, and event details accurate. Tourism content drifts: businesses close, hours change seasonally, events get rescheduled. Always confirm critical details with the site or venue directly before you go. If something is wrong, please report it. See "Report a problem" links across site, event, and route detail pages.

Third-party content and links

The site links to hotel booking engines, event websites, maps, and other external resources. We are not responsible for the content, accuracy, or availability of those third-party sites. When you click Check rates on a hotel, the booking and any resulting reservation happens entirely on the hotel's own platform under that platform's terms.

America 250 and heritage content

America 250 references on the site are editorial and not an official endorsement by the U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission. Heritage narratives draw from publicly available historical sources; specific factual claims are footnote-able on request.

Photos and content licensing

Site text is © 2026 Where Tennessee Began unless otherwise marked. Photographs may carry their own licenses (CC-BY-SA Wikimedia, public-domain government sources, or our own captures). Site detail pages credit photo sources where applicable.

No warranty

The site is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind. We make no guarantees about fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or availability. The maintainers are not liable for any loss arising from your use of the site, including but not limited to arriving at a closed venue, missing an event, or losing your saved trip.

Changes

We may revise these terms. The "Effective" date at the top will be updated. Continued use of the site after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Tennessee, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles.
