Bring your group to where Tennessee began.
Motor-coach tours, school field trips, civic-club outings, and family reunions. One county, two heritage centuries, 6 heritage sites within a 40-minute drive.
School field trips
Rocky Mount, Exchange Place, Old Deery Inn, and the Birthplace of Country Music Museum all host structured K-12 programming. We'll connect you with each site's education coordinator, suggest a sequence that fits your curriculum, and outline a one-day route with travel time built in.
Best for 4th-grade Tennessee history + 11th-grade U.S. history standards.
Motor-coach tours
Sullivan County is purpose-built for the heritage motor-coach circuit: short drive times between America 250 anchors, a dozen restaurant options that can seat 50+, and lodging clusters near every interstate exit. We'll suggest a stop sequence, identify which sites need advance booking, and flag the seasonal events worth timing around.
See the Presidential Trail and Three Centuries routes for two pre-built plans.
Civic clubs & reunions
DAR, Rotary, Lions, Kiwanis, alumni gatherings, family reunions, and regional history societies all bring groups here. We'll help match your interests to the right combination of historic sites, dining, and lodging, including which venues handle private dining for 20-100.
Sessions Hotel, MeadowView, and the Bristol Hotel all do private event space.
What to expect
- One point of contact. Send an inquiry to groups@wheretennesseebegan.com. We'll match you with the right site coordinator(s) and reply within two business days.
- Realistic route timing. Sullivan County is compact (most sites within 40 minutes of any other) but motor coaches need parking and turnaround room. We'll flag which sites work well for buses and which need a smaller-vehicle plan.
- Group rates where they exist. Several sites offer rates for groups of 10+ (see route pricing on `/tours`); others are donation-based. We don't add a booking fee. You pay each site directly.
- America 250 alignment. The federal semiquincentennial runs 2026-2033. Sullivan County is on the official America 250 trail; school programs can be built around the four core narratives (frontier government, Cherokee diplomacy, the Overmountain march, the Bristol Sessions).
- Lodging coordination. Brand hotels off I-81 / I-26 can typically hold blocks 60-90 days out. See /stay for the full directory.
